What is Gate?
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is basically a computer bases online national level exam on the understanding of various (27 subjects) undergraduate subjects. This time GATE included the psychology also. This exam is conducted by IIT’s in different cities of India and some cities outside India.
A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts.
Benefit of GATE
Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to Postgraduate Programs (Master’s and Doctoral) with Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships, subject to the admission criteria of the admitting institute.
The GATE score is also used by some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for their recruitment and by several other universities in India and abroad for admissions.
Mode – Computer Based Tests
Duration – 3 Hours
Number of Subject – General Aptitude & Candidates Selected Paper
Type of Questions – Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and/or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions
Questions for testing these abilities – Recall, Comprehension, Application & Analysis and Synthesis
Number of Questions – 10 (GA) + 55 (subject) = 65 Questions
General Aptitude – Reading comprehension, Expression , Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning.
Psychology Subject- Research Methods and Statistics, Psychometrics: Foundations of Psychological measurement, Biological and evolutionary basis of behaviour, Perception, Learning, Memory and Forgetting, Cognition: Thinking, Intelligence and Language, Theories of personality, Motivation, Emotion and Stress and Coping, Social psychology, Development across the life span, Applications of Psychology
