Psychology at the Master’s level was introduced in Delhi University in 1957 under the Department of Philosophy and Psychology. The Department of Psychology as an independent department was established in 1964 under the headship of Late Prof. H.C Ganguli.
The Department has two units, one at the North campus and one at the South campus established in 1981. At the North Campus offices offered are M.A. Psychology and Ph.D while at South Campus the courses offered is M.A. in Applied Psychology. However, now the South campus has also started course in M.A. Applied Psychology.

Merit or Direct: 50% of the total intake shall be filled by direct admission of the students of the University of Delhi only, on the basis of merit. This mode is not available to students from other Universities.
Entrance: Remaining 50% of the seats shall be filled through entrance examination and Interview/Group Discussion, if any. The duration of entrance examination shall be two hours. The question paper shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. The syllabus for the entrance examination of each postgraduate course is the corresponding B.A. (Psychology Syllabus of the University of Delhi.
MA Psychology: Candidates shall be selected for admission in order of merit prepared on the basis of following weight-age:
- Entrance Test 80%
- Interview 20%
MA Applied Psychology: Candidates shall be selected for admission in order of merit prepared on the basis of following weight-age:
- Entrance Test 70%
- Interview 20%
- Group Discussion 10%
The multiple choice questions would be drawn from the following areas :
- Cognitive Psychology (Sensation, Perception, Emotion, motivation, Intelligence, Problem solving etc)
- Child Development
- Research Method
- Social Psychology
- Abnormal and Clinical Psychology
- Industrial Psychology
