At the teen age of 16 to 18 when the average Indian student clears class 12 at that time they don’t know what to do or where they fit in. This is where career counsellor comes into picture.

The job of career counsellor is to analyse his or her personality, skills, aptitude, interest, intelligence level and suggest best suitable career choices for a student.

2. Clinical Psychologists 

As a clinical psychologist, one can work independently or join a clinic, health centre or hospital. In India, a clinical psychologist will have to do a MA or MSc in Psychology followed by a two-year M Phil in Psychology to fulfil the minimum requirements specified by the Rehabilitation Council of India.

The single largest sub-branch of psychology to offer employment, Clinical Psychology has several specializations that one can opt for. Clinical psychologists deal with mental and emotional disorders and some of the fields in which you can create your niche are substance abuse, health psychology, geriatrics, child or adult mental health, and post trauma therapies etc.

3. Counsellor 

Counselling is a term that deals with people having any type of problem-career planning, social issues, emotional problems, parenting crisis.

A counsellor offers support, counselling, therapies to the client and ensures his or her health development.

The annual salary according to statistics can vary anywhere between 18,000 to 30,000 per month as entry level.

4. Industrial or Organisational Psychologist

As an industrial psychologist or organisational psychologist, you can help employees to improve their work performance, improve their work behaviour and build their job-related skills.

The annual salary according to statistics can vary anywhere between 35,000 to 45,000 per month as entry level. If you are working independently as freelancer then even you can go beyond 1 lakh or more per month.

5. Teaching  

To become a psychology professor, you must earn at least a master’s degree with qualifying UGC NET exam and to further advance, you should earn Ph.D.

You can work as school teacher as PGT Psychology or School Counsellor after MA in Psychology. For PGT you need B.Ed and for counsellor if you have any diploma in counselling then your chances to get the job of school counsellor increases.
